The Port of Tarragona has received for the first time in its history the sixth generation, 10,000-foot drillship Stena Forth. The vessel is being looked after by Hamilton y Cía, the consignee company of the national company Transcoma Grupo Empresarial, headquartered in Barcelona and specialising in maritime, freight forwarding, logistics and customs services.
The arrival of the Stena Forth is an important milestone for Catalonia, given that the vessel, built in 2009, flying the British flag and measuring 228.34 metres in length, is a reference in the sector, has already operated in 14 countries and can work in deep waters - up to 3,650 metres - and drill up to 12,190 metres.
After what will be its last stop in Spain, the vessel will set sail for Egypt. It will do so after being serviced by Hamilton y Cía - with the support of Transcoma, a company of the group in charge of ship consignment and maritime services provider - both as a representative and as a consignee agency. The ship has a crew of 117 people on board and in Tarragona the crew change will be carried out as well as the replacement of new piping and maintenance tasks.
Transcoma Grupo Empresarial has stressed the importance of the operation and warned that it shows that the ports of Catalonia are ‘a neuralgic point in the global routes of foreign trade and a gateway to the traffic of goods in the Mediterranean’. In this sense, they added, ‘it is worth remembering our geographical proximity to the main industrial corridors of the continent and our status as a maritime bridge to North Africa and Asia’.
